AG meets key stakeholders to clear legal hurdles ahead of Region 10 housing programme

Attorney General Anil Nandlall met with Minister of Housing Collin Croal, Minister within the Ministry of Housing, Susan Rodrigues, Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), Sherwyn Greaves, Chairman of NICIL, Paul Cheong, Chief Executive Officer of NICIL, Radha Krishna Sharma, Registrar of Lands, Rosalie Robertson and Manager of Surveys, Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission (GLSC), Rene Duesbury on Monday.

The Government of Guyana says it is moving ahead with the promised housing programme for the Upper Demerara – Berbice (Region Ten).

In a statement on Monday, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, SC disclosed that efforts are being made to ensure that all legal hurdles are crossed before the programme begins.
The National Industrial & Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL) currently holds title for the lands in question and the Attorney General is keen on ensuring any legal hurdle is cleared and the process is addressed in a timely manner.

Nandlall met with Minister of Housing Collin Croal, Minister within the Ministry of Housing, Susan Rodrigues, Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), Sherwyn Greaves, Chairman of NICIL, Paul Cheong, Chief Executive Officer of NICIL, Radha Krishna Sharma, Registrar of Lands, Rosalie Robertson and Manager of Surveys, Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission (GLSC), Rene Duesbury at his Carmichael Street, Georgetown office.

“The meeting served to address issues and provide clarity in the exercise of ensuring the identified lands are transferred from NICIL to the CHPA to regularize and allot house lots and certificates of titles to residents of Region 10,” Nandlall said in the statement.
On January 14, 2021, President Irfaan Ali led a Cabinet Outreach to Linden, Region 10, where he committed to address several housing issues in the Region.
