POLICY FORUM GUYANA OFFICE VANDALISED AMID ONGOING PUBLIC EXCHANGES ON GYEITI

Policy Forum Guyana (PFG) wishes to inform the public that its office at 56B Hadfield and Austin Place, Georgetown—secured by MMC Security—was vandalised sometime between Thursday, November 20th and Tuesday, November 25th 2025.

During this period, the office remained unoccupied as staff were attending the meeting convened by Dr. English on behalf of the Ministry of Natural Resources last Thursday and Friday. As a result, the office was left empty from Wednesday afternoon until work resumed on Tuesday morning.

This incident occurs against the backdrop of Policy Forum Guyana’s recent public exchanges with the Government of Guyana regarding the Guyana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (GYEITI). While we draw no conclusions at this time, the timing of the intrusion is concerning.

Upon reopening the office on November 25th, staff discovered that a window latch had been forcibly broken and items scattered on the desk of the PFG Coordinator. Several high-value electronic devices—including the office cordless phone, the internet modem/router, and the Policy Forum Guyana mobile phone—were left untouched on the desk despite being easily reachable through the broken window.

Instead, the focus of the intrusion appeared to be the desk drawers, which contained organisational documents and personal items. Personal items ransacked included feminine hygiene products and a cream; the cream was smeared across documents, folders, and a power strip. Numerous folders were opened and searched through, indicating deliberate interference rather than theft.

A formal report has been filed with the Alberttown Police Outpost – Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for further investigation. Policy Forum Guyana condemns this act of vandalism and views it as a troubling attempt to interfere with or intimidate personnel and the organisation.

PFG remains committed to transparency, accountability, and carrying out our mandate in the public interest. Further updates will be provided as more information emerges.
