We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) has accused the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP) of engaging in vote-buying and voter intimidation in the Northwest District, particularly in Arakaka, on election day.
In a statement issued this afternoon, WIN claimed it had received credible reports from multiple residents alleging that PPP operatives were offering cash payments of G$10,000 per vote in exchange for support at the polls.
The party further alleged that PPP-branded and unbranded tents have been strategically placed near polling stations across the country, under the guise of providing voter assistance. WIN contends that these tents are being used as tools to intimidate voters and influence electoral outcomes through fear.
“These tents, under the false pretext of providing ‘assistance,’ are in fact calculated instruments of voter intimidation and fearmongering,” the statement read.
WIN described the reported activities as “acts of desperation” by an outgoing administration “consumed with clinging to power.”
“The PPP is so consumed with clinging to power that it has resorted to last-minute coercion, intimidation, and vote-buying tactics in the futile hope of reversing the will of the people,” WIN stated. “The people of Guyana are resolute, their decision is made, and no amount of fear, manipulation, or corruption will turn them aside.”
The party had called on the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to intervene immediately, dismantle the tents, remove individuals engaging in bribery and intimidation, and uphold the transparency of the electoral process.
“The people of Guyana deserve nothing less than a free, fair, and transparent process,” the statement concluded.
Voters hope the international observer missions have taken note of the numerously allegations of manipulating the elections because they can affect the election outcome and the true will of the people.
