“It takes a revolution, to make a solution / Too much confusion, so much frustration…” – Dennis Brown, Revolution

As the winds of another election season begin to stir across Guyana, the lyrics of Dennis Brown echo louder than ever in the hearts of a people burdened by broken promises, deepening inequality, and the suffocating grip of corruption.

Guyana Dev Bank: in construction, same production

For too long, the PPP/C regime has cloaked itself in the illusion of development while leaving behind the very backbone of this nation- the ordinary working-class Guyanese. We are told of economic booms, oil wealth, infrastructure surges. But ask the market vendor in New Amsterdam, the cane-cutter in Berbice, the school teacher in Essequibo, or the youth job-hunting in Sophia – and you’ll hear the truth: they are not eating from the national table. They are choking on the scraps.

The numbers don’t lie. Over 43% of our population remains shackled in abject poverty – even as billions flow into the country from oil revenues. The gap between the wealthy elite and the average citizen has grown into a chasm. Gated mansions rise in the capital while entire rural and hinterland communities remain without running water, proper healthcare, or basic employment opportunities.

Where is the justice in that?

Where is the equity?

Where is the leadership?

Instead, we see a government more committed to preserving its own power than serving its people. Corruption has been institutionalized; a cancer that eats away at our national potential. Contracts go to friends and family. Public resources are hoarded by the few. Transparency is a ghost. And accountability? Nowhere to be found.

But a storm is brewing. And it is not of chaos; it is of purpose.

It takes a revolution – not of bullets or barricades – but of ballots. A revolution of collective will. Of a nation rising to say “enough” to exploitation and lies. Enough to a system that fattened the few and starved the many.

September is not just another election. It is our moment.

A moment to rewrite the story of Guyana.

A moment to ignite a revolution of the mind, the spirit, and the vote.

Let us rise like the disciplined, focused, and purposeful soldiers of light that we are- fighting not for vengeance, but for a noble cause: the dignity and future of every Guyanese, regardless of race, class, or creed.

Let the ballot box be our battlefield. Let justice, equality, and people-first governance be our weapons. Let this vote be our revolution; a collective uprising of citizens who refuse to be prisoners of poverty while others feast in luxury off their labour.

To the youth, the workers, the farmers, the mothers, and the fathers: you are the chosen. You are the power. Do not let fear or complacency silence your voice. Show up. Speak out. Vote the PPP/C out.

It takes a revolution and the time is now.
