Georgetown, Guyana – July 2024: In a remarkable display of academic excellence, the county of Essequibo is celebrating a significant milestone as four students from the IDBLab funded Mainstay Lake Learning Pod who have been named valedictorians over the past three years. This extraordinary achievement underscores the effectiveness of the Learning Pod club leader and by extension the learning pod program and the dedication of the educators from the Lake Mainstay Primary School.

Lake Mainstay Primary School has produced the valedictorians; Rylon and Jamie Williams for the year 2022, Tyra Stephney for the year 2023, and Jenasacia Joseph for 2024, and they were all guided by the committed and passionate Learning Pod Coach, Miss Sharmala Singh. Her innovative teaching methods and unwavering support have been instrumental in nurturing the academic talents of these students, enabling them to achieve the highest honors.

A Community Triumph
The success of these students is a community triumph for a region which prides itself on doing everything possible to educate its children. The IDBLab funded Learning Pod program was established to bridge educational gaps and provide quality tutoring to students in underserved areas. The program’s impact is evident in the outstanding performance of its scholars, who have consistently excelled and set new benchmarks for academic success.

Alisha Koulen, Operations Manager, expressed her pride and joy in the accomplishments of the Learning Pod scholars. “It’s truly inspiring to see the results of our efforts in action. Producing four valedictorians in three years is a testament to the hard work of our students and the dedication of our educators like Miss Sharmala Singh. We are immensely proud of these young achievers and look forward to supporting many more in the future,” Koulen stated.

The celebration of these valedictorians is a testament to the power of quality education and community support. STEMGuyana’s commitment to fostering academic excellence continues to shine through the achievements of its students, paving the way for a brighter future for all.

As the Learning Pod program continues to grow, STEMGuyana remains dedicated to working with sponsors like the IDBLab and members of the private sector to provide resources and opportunities for students across the country. The success of the Mainstay Lake Learning Pod serves as a model for other communities, demonstrating that with the right support and guidance, every student has the potential to excel.
