Bourda Market vendor beaten, robbed of cash, mobile phone

A 45-year-old Bourda Market vendor was on Thursday morning robbed by four unidentifiable armed males.
The victim, Hazrat (only name given) of Ruby back, East Bank Essequibo was relieved of one black LG mobile phone valued $30,000 and $40,000 cash. The robbery under arms occurred at about 03:30h at Alexander Street, Bourda Market.

One of the perpetrators carried a small black handgun, while the others were armed with knives.
According to reports, Hazrat was at his stall in the Market when the perpetrators approached him on pedal cycles.

“The male pointed the gun at victim and told him not to say anything, he then dealt the victim two lashes to the left side of his face with the said gun and demanded money,” Police said in a statement.
After receiving the items from Hazrat, the men made good their escape in a southern direction along Alexander Street.

Police were summoned but were unsuccessful in locating the suspects.

An investigation has been launched.
