Cops probe robbery, attempted robbery

Police are investigating an alleged attempted  robbery under arms  committed on Hemant Dhanpaul aka “Chicken” age 43 years, self employed of  Maria’s Lodge Old Road, Essquibo Coast which occurred about Tuesday night.

Enquiries revealed that  Dhanpaul was making his way to the lower flat of his home when he was confronted by the two men; one armed with a cutlass and the other with what appeared to be a firearm. The suspect who was armed with the cutlass dealt the victim several lashes about his body causing him to receive injuries, when the other suspect who was armed with the suspected firearm pointed same to the victim’s head and demanded money. The victim however raised an alarm and the suspects made good their escape.

The victim was escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital by the police for medical attention.
Investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident police said they are also investigating  another robbery committed on Daniel Rooplall, age 21 years, labourer of Back Street Patentia, West Bank Demerara which occurred  on Tuesday about 20:30 hours on the Patentia Public Road.

The victim was robbed of his cellular phone valued $40,000  by an identifiable male   who was armed with a cutlass.

According to the police the victim was walking on Patentia Public Road heading home, when the suspect approached him and pointed the cutlass to his neck, while demanding the victim hand over all his valuables. The victim who was fearful for his life handed over the item mentioned. The suspect then escaped on foot.
The matter was reported at the Wales Police Station. Checks were made for the suspect but were unsuccessful. Investigation in progress.
