Pedestrian killed in Kuru Kururu accident

Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on Tuesday night on the KuruKururu, Public Road, Soesdyke-Linden highway.
The accident occurred about 21:00 and involved a  motorcar driven by a 42 year-old resident of North Road Bourda, Georgetown and pedestrian Bheesham Nandram age 32 years of Land of Canaan East Bank Demerara.

Nandram who is slim built and dark in complexion was at the time wearing a light blue long pants and a white shirt with red and white shoes.
Enquiries disclosed that the driver was proceeding west along the southern side of Kuru Kururu Public Road at a fast rate of speed when it is alleged by the driver that the pedestrian suddenly ran from north to south into his path and as a result the left side front of the car collided with the pedestrian; causing him to fall onto the windscreen and then onto the road surface, receiving injuries about his body.

The pedestrian was picked up in an unconscious condition  taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was  pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.

A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver found no trace of alcohol in his breath.

The driver is in custody as investigations continue.
