“I have not been formally informed of any nomination by the People’s National Congress Reform [PNCR]. If and when I am informed of my nomination, I will respond accordingly” So says former Minister Simona Broomes, who has advised the PNCR has a constitutional process that provides for candidacy nomination. She is therefore asking the public to disregard any political statements made on her behalf.

Broomes is among seven persons the PNCR announced was nominated to contest the post for Party Leader at the 22nd Biennial Congress due June 28-30, 2024.  The other six are incumbent Leader Aubrey Norton M.P; Members of Parliament Amanza Walton-Desir, former minister Volda Lawrence and Roysdale Forde, SC.; former minister and vice president Carl Greenidge; and former chief  of staff of the Guyana Defence Force, ret’d Rear Admiral Gary Best.

Monday was the Party’s Nomination Day. Following the process the Party next has to verify whether the nominees and/or the groups nominating them are in good financial and operational standing as outlined by the Party rules and election procedures. During this process candidates, members and or groups are likely to raise objections.

By no means is the Nomination Process over or the number of nominations ironclad. After this process is verified, nominees are written to and asked whether they accept or decline the nomination. Their response is sent to the Party. The Party then makes a formal announcement of the candidates.

Without regard for the process, persons are haggling, pronouncing, aligning, misinforming, and ensnaring some nominees who desire the process to work itself out.  One such person ensnared by the disregard for the process or ignorance of the process and seeking to create the impression of alignment is Broomes and she is not happy about it.

In a statement the former minister is asking persons, including the media, to cease and desist from misrepresent her and the process

The full statement follows:

The People’s National Congress Reform has a constitutional process that provides for candidacy nomination. I have not been formally informed of any nomination by PNCR. If and when I am informed of my nomination, I will respond accordingly. I kindly ask that all disregard any political statements made on my behalf.
