Doha, Qatar: The UAE Pavilion at Expo 2023 Doha, in partnership with the International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), recently co-hosted two days of interactive programs in Qatar that shared insights on agricultural practices, innovations, and UAE-based efforts to develop and strengthen sustainable local food systems.

On Thursday, January 25, 2024, Director General of ICBA Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi led an engaging dialogue on “Agricultural Practices in the UAE and the Impact on Sustainable Food Systems” at Expo 2023, and was joined by Dr. Mohammad Shahid, a geneticist at ICBA. The discussion was moderated by Nour El Jundi, a proposal development specialist at ICBA.

Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi presented ICBA’s new book entitled “Agricultural Practices in the UAE: Heritage and Science,” emphasized the importance of drawing on both traditional agricultural practices and scientific research to innovate and create holistic solutions to enhance food security.

She also shed light on global discussions around agriculture, noting that: “The world is actively discussing sustainable agriculture, raising the pertinent question: ‘What were the practices of people in the past?’ ICBA is collaborating with various partners to explore this and delve into methods like regenerative agriculture.” She also noted the role of the book as a tool to engage a wide audience that can facilitate the transfer of knowledge across generations while sharing practices and sustainable history.

During the session, ICBA’s Dr. Mohammad Shahid discussed native and cultivated plants in the UAE and Qatar, highlighting multipurpose plants like salicornia – which is found in both countries – that thrive in saline environments. The audience included His Excellency. Ibrahim Al Alawi, Commissioner General for the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2023 Doha, as well as Commissioner Generals from across Expo 2023, and members of the diplomatic community.

UAE Pavilion hosted an experiential food pop-up titled “Nourishing Ourselves, Nourishing Nature,” with ICBA’s Halophytic Kitchen Lab, to introduce guests to recipes featuring salt-tolerant plants, including salicornia, quinoa, and millets.

Throughout the day, the public enjoyed live cooking demonstrations and tasted gluten-free salicornia falafels, “quinotto” (a risotto dish where quinoa is substituted for rice) with a salicornia pesto, and a millet-date pudding dessert. They also had the opportunity to try fresh salicornia, which can be used in salads. The event was attended by around 250 guests from all around the world.

The live cooking session was led by Chef Luca Cobre from the Healthy Farm Eatery, joined by the ICBA team, who discussed how to incorporate these climate-resilient and nutritious crops into everyday dishes. Nour El Jundi emphasized the nutritional benefits of these crops in addressing diet-related diseases, given their richness in both macro and micronutrients. With diet-related diseases ranking as the leading cause of mortality globally and the compounding impacts of climate change, promoting crops that are both climate-resilient and nutritious becomes crucial for enhancing food and nutrition security.

Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi said: “Such important initiatives symbolize the UAE’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. Our purpose is not just to serve meals, but rather promote healthy and sustainable dietary choices and share our vision for a sustainable future.”

“I would like to thank the UAE Pavilion for providing a platform to engage in dialogue around global issues, while showcasing the wisdom of the Founding Father and his fellow rulers of the emirates and their impact on its robust agricultural industry today, shaping its practices and sustainable, flourishing future for our nation,” she added.

Guyana MOTTO History

In October of 1958, at the opening of History and Culture Week, Minister Brindley Horatio Benn, CCH, is quoted in the Guyana Graphic as declaring: “British Guiana can make a unique contribution to history only if we weld ourselves into “One People, One Nation, One Destiny.”

Brindley Horatio Benn, CCH, who served the nation of Guyana variously as Chairman of the People’s Progressive Party, Minister of Community Development and Education, Deputy Premier, Minister of Natural Resources, Minister of Agriculture, Forests and Lands, High Commissioner to Canada, and Chairman of the Public Service Commission, and of the Lotteries Commission.

Brindley Benn was the inspired soul behind the National Motto – Kaieteur News (kaieteurnewsonline.com)

SHARED GOVERNANCE.

Continuing RACIAL DIVIDE has not been successful since 1966 with Guyana’s Independence. With Almighty’s Blessings of OIL and GAS Wealth, which ALL GUYANESE are the OWNERS. Shared Governance was discussed BUT no change, to date.

Now is an opportunity for SHARED GOVERNANCE with 2/5 PPPC; 2/5 APNU+ AFC; and 1/5 Trade Unions and Civil Society, for Ministers, Boards, Commissions, and Ambassadors. With RESPECT, if the current DISPLEASURES by over HALF OF the POPULATION the HUGE INVESTORS IN GUYANA including EXXON will not tolerate continuing RACIAL CONFLICTS, which is evident to ALL, despite PAID Consultants’ Communications.

An ALERT from HIGH BACK CHANNEL, is that the VERY POWERFUL and Determined, WASHINGTON AUTHORITIES, will soon advocate/work/install MECHANISMS for SHARED GOVERNANCE. All will remember Washington’s HEAVY INFLUENCE for the August 2, 2020, Swearing in Ceremony.

Reminder : Quote by James A. Owen : “The good Lord giveth, he also taketh away. Then he puts it back again.”

With RESPECT the TONE was set in the recent book “ FROM DESTINY TO PROSPERITY” by Hon. Raphael G.C. Trotman, Esq.  who as Minister of Natural Resources, NAMED the FPSO’s ( Floating Production Storage & Offloading) SYSTEMS).

Pages 46 and 47 of the BOOK by Hon. Trotman, Esq,  “ I noticed LIZA 1, LIZA 2 and LIZA 3, I immediately TOLD THEM, that was a “NO, NO”. We needed the name to reflect the PERSONALITY and PERSONA of GUYANA. I considered

many options, that night and scribbled them down. These ranged from “NEW DAWN” to “ GUYANA PRIDE” and from “ MORNING GLORY” to “RESTORATION.”

“In the end I chose the Names “DESTINY,” “UNITY” and “PROSPERITY” These three names, the three sisters, were to be highly SYMBOLIC and WERE to CAPTURE the REALIZATION of the EMERGENCE of the NEW GUYANA.”

The STAGE is SET for PROSPERITY for ALL Guyanese including Region 11, Non-Resident Guyanese (NRG) in the Global Diaspora with Talent, Skills, and Resources to ENABLE, FACILITATE, and DELIVER a GUYANA for ALL, a PEOPLE CENTERED  GOVERNMENT with EQUITY, FAIRNESS, TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY, and The RULE OF LAW, including SINGAPORE’S remarkably Successful “ MPH” Model for BEST PRACTICES worthy of USING 3 KEYS.

  • MERITOCRACY> Best Persons to be Employed, Engaged, or Involved.
  • PRAGMATISM> Use what works.  Capitalism OR Socialism.
  • HONESTY> NO Corruption. To Pay Salaries based on Responsibilities, Accountabilities,       Deliverables, Outcomes and Achievements.

In addition to EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION which continues to be VERY PIVOTAL.
