Guyana Defence Force Football Club (GDF FC) delivered a ruthless attacking display on Saturday night, crushing Fruta Conquerors FC 7-0 in the GFF Elite League Season Eight at the National Training Centre in Providence.
The soldiers dominated the contest, scoring twice in the first half before taking full advantage of a second-half dismissal to run riot and complete one of the competition’s most emphatic victories.
Stephen Sonck Seth Mc Donald opened the scoring in the 13th minute, giving GDF FC an early advantage before Ian Dooker struck in the 34th minute to send his team into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Fruta Conquerors’ task became considerably harder just two minutes into the second half when Jamal Codrington was shown a red card in the 47th minute, leaving his side to face the defending pressure with ten players.
GDF FC wasted little time exploiting the numerical advantage. Abumchi Opara struck twice, scoring in the 52nd and 59th minutes to push the lead to 4-0 and put the result beyond doubt.
The onslaught continued in the closing stages as GDF FC refused to ease off. Colin Nelson added the fifth goal in the 85th minute, Quancy Fraser made it six in the 89th, and Mark Daniel Phillips completed the rout with a stoppage-time strike in the 91st minute.
The comprehensive result underlined GDF FC’s attacking depth and ability to punish opponents, while leaving Fruta Conquerors with serious questions to address after a difficult night.
Season Eight of the GFF Elite League, Guyana’s premier domestic club football competition, continues to provide a platform for the country’s leading clubs and players to compete and develop.
