By GHK Lall- How Mr. Gavin Kennard Douglas met his horrible death shouldn’t have happened to a dog. Even one that needed putting away. The sheer scale of violence delivered on this helpless man defies human reasoning, drains away the human capacity for understanding, and incites all too human emotional calls for an eye for an eye. But that extreme measure doesn’t solve anything, doesn’t lead to one less Guyanese dead or maimed for life at the hands of agents of the PPP Govt. It doesn’t return Gavin Douglas to his family, his friends, to this life.
Governments are not gang lords. But this is how the PPP Govt operates; its foot soldiers and ready executioners’ casual to indifferent about the sanctity of life, the restraint of the law. Gang lords are noted for their sadistic natures; and for their coldblooded ability to inflict pain, shed blood and destroy life. Isn’t this what happened in that Guyana Police outpost, with a man trapped and tied, a man that was an open invitation to viciousness of a kind rarely seen kind?
A man who is now dead. Dead not from the fury of an alcoholic haze run amok in some low dive grogshop. But in an office of the Government of Guyana. An institutional office erected to protect citizens, not to kill them. A precinct house that should never deteriorate, or be allowed to deteriorate, to where agents of the State transform into an enraged mob inflicting vigilante justice, while in uniform.
I have read about the extreme violence associated with the Tonton Macoute of Haiti and the Duvalier father-and-son crime wave. Never thought that that such raw bloodthirstiness, that cold soullessness, would pierce the boundaries of this land. And, most definitely not, not in a police stationhouse. Every rank, every officer, in that Vreed-en-Hoop should be given the sack. Of course, what Guyana has that passes for law and process don’t work that way.

Not even when Gavin Kennard Douglas must have looked like the human wreckage left from a war without mercy. Not when the life ebbed out in its tortured trickle from his body, and his unanswered screams and savaged spirit will haunt the winds around that place of murder. The gurgles from his struggles should intrude into the highest offices and chambers in Guyana. From official murder now so commonplace.
Murder that will be reduced to manslaughter for most of the barbaric executioners. And manslaughter that could carry a penalty as low as four years in jail. One never knows, but with the PPP Govt at the helm, that could be suspended. The Guyana Police Force has done so much dirty work for the PPP, has handled so many coverups for the PPP, that its members that take the law into their own hands (and probably as a matter of a commercial transaction) must be protected.

This is part of the deformity, the ugly tragedy of PPP Guyana. The people cannot get proper protection, not even the minimum, from the Guyana Police Force. But the Guyana Police Force has to be protected from the rising wrath of the people, and from the excesses of its own hands at many levels.
There’s none better than the PPP Govt at these kinds of bestial fixups and coverups. There is none with a longer record of depraved indifference to human life. It is said that a fish rots from the head. In PPP Guyana, the rot is so pervasive that it could start from any part of the body. Institutions invaded and corrupted. The law twisted into the coils of a snake, which has the extra advantages of a bite that’s 100 percent toxic, and a sting in the tail that is fatal. The PPP Govt record is there. It is of the law subverted by smooth-talking political bandits, and endless travesties of justice following.
Remember I said this as early as November 2026: Gavin Douglas’s murder will soon be yesterday’s news. Gavin Douglas’s grotesque passing will be another cause for PPP Govt celebrations. Another murder got away with, another party to roll in stolen money, another occasion for some PPP Govt screwball to make a solemn speech with a straight face. May Gavin Kennard Douglas’ soul by some miracle find eternal rest.
