The Alliance For Change (AFC) extends warm congratulations to the people of the United States of America following their participation in the 2026 Midterm Elections.

These elections serve as an important reminder of the enduring value of democratic participation, the right of citizens to choose their representatives, and the importance of institutions that remain accountable to the people. At a time when democracy faces challenges in many parts of the world, the participation of the American electorate provides an opportunity to renew confidence in the democratic process and its capacity for peaceful political change.

WHY THE SECRECY ABOUT THE RAISING OF THE MV BARIMA?

We extend our special congratulations to all the men and women elected to the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate. Their election carries with it a solemn responsibility to represent their constituents, defend democratic institutions, uphold the rule of law and work in the interests of the American people.

We offer particular congratulations to Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, whose continued leadership in the House of Representatives makes him an important figure in the American democratic and legislative landscape. His likely election as the Speaker of the House is a particular sense of pride to minorities throughout the world, and to the people of the Caribbean and Guyana, in particular.

The AFC believes that democracy is sustained not merely by elections, but by respect for constitutional principles, the protection of fundamental freedoms, the independence of institutions and the willingness of elected representatives to serve beyond narrow partisan interests.

As a political movement committed to democratic governance in Guyana, we recognise the significance of these elections beyond America’s borders. We hope that their outcome will further encourage democratic participation, institutional accountability and respect for the will of the people throughout the world.  Democracy must always remain the instrument through which people determine their future.

The Alliance For Change congratulates the American people and wishes all those elected success in the important responsibilities entrusted to them.
