The Iwokrama International Centre for Rain Forest Conservation and Development had the distinct honour of engaging with its Patron, His Majesty King Charles III at the Global Biodiversity Alliance (GBA) Exhibition on Friday, 30th October 2026, where the Centre showcased its work in forest conservation, sustainable forest management and community development.
The exhibition was part of the Second Global Biodiversity Alliance Conference and Financing Forum, which brought together organisations, stakeholders, and partners to showcase conservation initiatives and explore opportunities to mobilise financing and strengthen collective action for biodiversity protection.
Representing Iwokrama were CEO, Mr. Dane Gobin; Dr. Raquel Thomas, Director of Resource Management and Training; Anne-Marie Ford, Special Projects Consultant; Michael De Mendonca, Assistant Forestry Manager; and Rebecca Xavier, Acting Head Ranger.

His Majesty’s connection to Iwokrama spans more than two decades. During his visit to Guyana as the HRH Prince of Wales in February 2000, he travelled into the Iwokrama rainforest and accepted Patronage of the Centre that same year. He graciously renewed his patronage in 2024, after a brief break owing to his ascension to King, reaffirming a longstanding association with Iwokrama and its mission.
His Majesty has also been a steadfast supporter of initiatives that focus on sustainability of natural resources and often speaks out regarding Climate Change.
During his engagement at the GBA Exhibition, he praised Guyana’s forest conservation efforts inclusive of the Low Carbon Development Strategy and emphasised the importance of recognising nature’s priceless value.
Iwokrama values this opportunity to share its work with His Majesty and to highlight the importance of sustained commitment, collaboration, and action in conserving biodiversity and ensuring that forests continue to benefit people and nature.
