Fourteen students from the Mahaicony/Abary Neighbourhood Democratic Council area graduated from the Kuru Kuru Cooperative College’s Introduction to Computers programme on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, marking the college’s first graduation in Region Five.
The ceremony, held on the lawn of the Dundee NDC Office compound in collaboration with the Mahaicony/Abary NDC, celebrated the graduates’ completion of fifteen weeks of training in computer literacy.
Delivering the feature address on behalf of Minister of Education, Hon. Sonia Parag, MP, Dr. Kofi Dalrymple, Presidential Advisor on Tertiary Education Reform within the Ministry of Education, stressed that opportunity must not be determined by geography. He explained that this principle guides the delivery of higher education programmes across Guyana, enabling residents to pursue further education closer to home.
Dr. Dalrymple commended the college for extending training opportunities to Region Five, noting that these efforts support the Government’s commitment to expanding access to education in communities across the country.
In his welcome and opening remarks, Mahaicony/Abary NDC Vice Chairman, Mr. Leon Wordsworth, pledged the Council’s continued support for community education and training programmes that benefit residents.
Principal of the Kuru Kuru Cooperative College, Mr. Hansen Elliot, outlined the college’s programmes and training activities across Guyana and highlighted their benefits to participating communities. He described the graduation as the beginning of further training opportunities planned for Region Five.
Regional Executive Officer, Ms. Mary Samaroo, encouraged the graduates to view their achievement as a stepping stone towards further education and continued personal development.
Regional Chairman, Mr. Recardo Phillips, emphasised that programmes of this kind reflect the vision of His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and the Government’s commitment to creating opportunities for residents in every community.
Five students received awards for outstanding performance: Ms. Chandanie Ramdularah, Ms. Tamica John, Ms. Tanisha Ali, Ms. Aquila Joseph and Ms. Tayann John.
The graduation marks a milestone in expanding access to computer literacy training in Region Five. Young adults are encouraged to participate in these programmes to develop practical skills, further their education and prepare for employment opportunities.
