Thirty-five high-income allottees at Felicity F1 Phase One, East Coast Demerara, are now one step closer to homeownership after identifying their respective house lots.

Surveyors from the Ministry of Housing guided the beneficiaries to their allocated properties, allowing them to identify their lots and begin making plans for construction.

For allottee Roy Persaud, the exercise marked the end of a 21-year wait and brought his journey full circle.

Decades ago, he spent time cutting grass on the very lands now being transformed into a housing community, never imagining that he would one day own a piece of it.

“I grew up cutting grass in all these lands here, all these fields,” Persaud recalled.

Now that his lot has been identified, Persaud is turning his attention to the next stage, preparing to build his home.

“I have to start now to go around and find out the price of materials and get things sorted out, get a plan, you know,” he said.

Persaud said the opportunity to own land is particularly significant for families who have spent years renting or living with relatives while working towards having a home of their own.

“People are tired of living in rented houses, you know. And it’s a big plus for men and women in this nation to achieve their own house,” he said.

He also commended President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali for the government’s housing drive and efforts to expand access to house lots across the country.

“You know, he and the administration go the extra mile to see what the Guyanese people need to feel secure,” Persaud said.

For Persaud, finally receiving a house lot close to the community where he grew up carries special meaning, turning a place he knew as open fields decades ago into the location where he can now begin building a home of his own.

The identification exercise at Felicity F1 Phase One now allows the 35 allottees to move ahead with plans to develop their properties, bringing each family another step closer to turning their allocated land into a home.
