The We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party has opened a new office in Corriverton, Region Six, as it expands its grassroots organisation ahead of the next Local Government Elections.

According to a social media post published by WIN, approximately 100 people attended the official opening on Sunday afternoon. The post said the office was commissioned by WIN Executive and Co-Founder Hana Mohamed and WIN Member of Parliament Gobin Harbhajan.

The social media statement said the event also featured the introduction of WIN’s Regional Councillors, Sub-District Party Group Chairpersons and community leader Sir Seeraj, as the party continues to build its organisational presence across Region Six.

The programme also marked the formation of the Region Six WIN Women’s Group, adding a dedicated women’s structure to the party’s regional organisation.

Focus on Grassroots Organisation

According to WIN’s social media post, speakers at the event stressed the importance of developing strong and active community groups as the party prepares for the next Local Government Elections.

The post said attendees expressed dissatisfaction with the governing People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) administration and supported calls for political change under the leadership of Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed.

Those views represent the position of the attendees and WIN as described in the party’s post and are not an independently verified assessment of public sentiment across Region Six.

The Corriverton office is being presented by WIN as a permanent base where residents can engage with the party, raise community concerns and participate in its political and organisational activities.

WIN Building Its Opposition Machinery

The move comes after WIN emerged as a major force in Guyana’s opposition following the 2025 General and Regional Elections, winning 16 of the 65 seats in the National Assembly. The APNU secured 12 seats, while the Forward Guyana Movement won one.

Mohamed subsequently became Leader of the Opposition, placing WIN at the centre of the parliamentary opposition.

The party is now seeking to translate its national parliamentary presence into a more extensive community-level organisation, particularly as Guyana moves toward its next Local Government Elections.

The Corriverton opening forms part of that effort, with WIN seeking to establish party structures, recruit members and develop local leadership beyond the national political arena.

The creation of the Region Six Women’s Group also provides the party with an organised platform for women’s participation in its community and political activities.

Local Government Elections in Focus

Local Government Elections matter because they determine who sits on Neighbourhood Democratic Councils and Municipal Councils—the institutions closest to the people and responsible for decisions affecting roads, drainage, sanitation, markets and other basic community services. Yet the uncertainty surrounding when Guyanese will next get to exercise that local democratic right only underscores the importance of parties building a serious grassroots presence.

WIN’s decision to establish a permanent office and deploy regional and sub-district officials is therefore more than an administrative move. It signals an effort to build the political machinery needed to challenge the established parties at community level, where electoral strength is built long before polling day.

The next Local Government Elections are constitutionally due this year, yet no date has been announced. That uncertainty leaves communities waiting while political parties position themselves for the contest. WIN’s Corriverton initiative will therefore have to demonstrate that it is more than another political office and another layer of party organisation: it must show how it intends to translate grassroots mobilisation into meaningful representation and tangible improvements in the communities it seeks to represent.

It did, however, frame the opening as another step in WIN’s effort to expand its membership and establish a permanent presence in communities across Region Six.

The effectiveness of that grassroots expansion will ultimately be tested when Guyanese return to the polls for local government representation.
