NO VOTING in 13 Local Authority Areas and 193 Constituencies come June 12

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has declared there will be NO VOTING in 13 Local Authority Areas and 193 Constituencies in other Local Authority Areas / Constituency for the Local Government Elections, which is due on Monday June 12, 2023.

This is because there is no challenge to the People’s Progressive Party/Civic. These are areas also where the A Partnership of National Unity (APNU) did not put forward candidates for the local authority areas and constituencies.

GECOM ,in a post stated, “Section 54 of the Local Authorities (Elections) Act provides that if only one List of Candidates for any Local Authority Area (LAA) has been approved, the persons whose names appear on the List shall be deemed to have been elected as Councillors due to the approved List being unopposed. Therefore, the Candidates in that List shall be declared the winner of the election.”
