The unbeaten Guyana Amazon Warriors return home tonight for a high-stakes Caribbean Premier League clash against the Jamaica Kingsmen at Providence, with both teams entering the contest on eight points.
The Warriors have won all four of their matches and currently sit at the top of the standings with a perfect record and an impressive net run rate of +2.604.
The Kingsmen, meanwhile, have also accumulated eight points but have played eight matches, winning four and losing four.
That gives tonight’s encounter added significance for both teams, with Jamaica seeking to halt Guyana’s unbeaten run and the Warriors looking to strengthen their position at the top.
The match begins at 7 p.m. at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
The Warriors enter the match on the back of a dramatic nine-run Duckworth-Lewis-Stern victory over the Trinbago Knight Riders.
That match was reduced to 16 overs per side because of rain, but Guyana held its nerve to secure another victory.
Shimron Hetmyer was the standout performer, smashing an unbeaten 111 from just 43 deliveries.
His explosive innings equalled the CPL record for the fastest century and propelled him beyond 7,000 career T20 runs.
Hetmyer has also emerged as the Warriors’ leading run-scorer in this year’s tournament, while Shamar Joseph leads the bowling attack with eight wickets.
But tonight’s contest carries an additional storyline.
Guyanese all-rounder Keemo Paul will return to Providence wearing Jamaica Kingsmen colours against the franchise he has represented.
Paul is expected to receive a mixed reception from the home crowd as he attempts to help Jamaica hand the Warriors their first defeat of the season.
He has indicated that the only way to silence the Providence crowd is through performance on the field.
The match is also the first of five CPL games Guyana will host during the Warriors’ home leg between September 4 and 11.
Following tonight’s game, Guyana will face the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on September 6, the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on September 8, the St Lucia Kings on September 9 and defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders on September 11.
The expanded 2026 CPL features seven teams, with the Jamaica Kingsmen joining the competition this season.
For the Warriors, however, the immediate objective is simple: preserve the unbeaten record.
For the Kingsmen, it is an opportunity to deliver the first major setback of Guyana’s campaign—in front of a home crowd that will expect nothing less than another Warriors victory.
