The government has announced that His Majesty King Charles III has accepted its invitation alongside a request from the Government of the United Kingdom, to visit Guyana later this year.
The visit, expected in the latter part of October, will form part of Their Majesties’ Autumn Tour, announced by Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, and will mark 60 years of bilateral relations between Guyana and the United Kingdom.
The visit comes as relations between the two countries continue to expand across areas including trade, investment, climate action, development, and people-to-people ties.
President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali has maintained regular high-level engagement with the United Kingdom since assuming office. In April 2022, he travelled to London to participate in the Caribbean Council’s House of Lords Annual Reception and led a Guyanese delegation at an investment seminar aimed at attracting investment to Guyana.
President Ali returned to the United Kingdom in May 2023 to attend the Coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey. During that visit, he also held engagements with international leaders and met former British Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair.
In September 2024, President Ali visited Scotland, where he met King Charles III for discussions centred on climate resilience, sustainable development, agriculture, and community-driven initiatives. The engagement also advanced collaboration between Guyana and The King’s Foundation on sustainable urban development under the Low Carbon Development Strategy 2030.
The president has also highlighted the growing economic dimension of the Guyana-UK relationship. Bilateral trade increased from £587 million in 2020 to £1.64 billion in 2024, while UK Export Finance has increased its support for opportunities in Guyana.
The upcoming royal visit is therefore expected to provide a significant opportunity to further strengthen the longstanding relationship between Guyana and the United Kingdom, while highlighting Guyana’s development, cultural heritage, and growing role on the international stage.
