Caribbean Airlines (CAL) has announced it will discontinue its direct Trinidad-Tobago-Barbados return service beginning Sept. 2 as the carrier continues to adjust its regional network.
The airline said Wednesday that flights BW212 and BW213 will be discontinued as part of “ongoing schedule optimization across its regional network.”
Despite the change, CAL said passengers will continue to have options for travel between Trinidad, Tobago and Barbados through other flights in its existing schedule.
The airline said passengers who already have bookings on the affected flights will be re-accommodated on alternative CAL flights on the same day. Affected customers will be contacted directly with details of their revised travel arrangements.
“This adjustment supports Caribbean Airlines’ ongoing efforts to align its schedule with customer demand while maintaining reliable and convenient connectivity across the region,” CAL said.
The latest change comes several months after the airline announced additional cuts to its regional network.
In May, CAL said it would discontinue services on routes involving Dominica, St. Kitts and flights between Ogle in Guyana and Suriname, effective June 1. At the time, the airline said the changes were part of efforts to focus on “operational reliability, customer experience and long-term financial stability.”
CAL also announced plans to reduce the frequency of flights to the French Caribbean islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe to twice weekly.
The changes followed a review of the airline’s network amid concerns about the financial performance of several routes introduced during its 2023 expansion into the Eastern Caribbean.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Eli Zakour previously told Parliament that a review by Caribbean Airlines’ Route Oversight Committee found that several of the routes introduced during the expansion had been launched without sufficient commercial justification and subsequently generated sustained financial losses.
Zakour said that, as of April 2026, the affected routes had accumulated combined losses of more than US$18.84 million.
Caribbean Airlines did not provide financial details related to its decision to discontinue flights BW212 and BW213.
