AI Platform Targets Guyanese Entrepreneurs Preparing for Development Bank Loans

A new artificial intelligence platform is being introduced to help Guyanese entrepreneurs prepare for financing under the newly established Guyana Development Bank, with its creators warning that some prospective borrowers could miss the opportunity simply because they are not prepared to meet lending requirements.

The initiative, Guyana Business Loan Ready, was launched by AI for Guyana to help entrepreneurs organise their documentation, develop business plans and prepare financial information ahead of applications to the Development Bank.

According to information provided by the initiative, qualifying entrepreneurs will be able to access loans of up to GYD $3 million at zero per cent interest without collateral. The Development Bank is intended to broaden access to financing for small entrepreneurs, farmers, young people, women, persons with disabilities and others who may have viable businesses but lack the property or other assets traditionally required by commercial lenders.

The initiative argues, however, that access to financing alone will not guarantee that entrepreneurs are able to benefit.

Many small business owners may have established customers, practical skills and viable ideas but little experience preparing formal business plans, cash-flow projections or other documents required by lenders.

Guyana Business Loan Ready is designed to address that gap. Users are asked simple questions about their businesses, ideas, finances and objectives, with the platform then helping to translate their responses into a structured business plan and financing package.

The platform can also help users determine whether they appear to meet publicly announced requirements, identify missing documentation and explain where those documents can be obtained. It also assists with projections of expected income and expenditure.

The initiative comes as the Government continues preparations for the implementation of the Guyana Development Bank, which has been promoted as a vehicle for expanding entrepreneurship and access to capital.

President Irfaan Ali has repeatedly encouraged Guyanese to develop business ideas and prepare to take advantage of the financing opportunity. Minister Zulfikar Ally has also been engaging communities on the initiative and stressing the importance of viable business plans, while Senior Minister Dr. Ashni Singh has described small and medium-sized enterprises as an important component of Guyana’s economy.

AI for Guyana said the technology could be particularly useful for entrepreneurs who understand their trade but are unfamiliar with financial and banking terminology.

A farmer, mechanic, caterer, salon operator, carpenter, shopkeeper or transportation provider, for example, may understand their customers and day-to-day operations but have difficulty producing a formal market analysis or cash-flow forecast.

The platform is intended to allow such entrepreneurs to explain their businesses in ordinary language while using AI to assist with the technical elements of business planning.

According to its creators, the platform draws on the Guyana Development Bank Act 2026, publicly released Government information, guidance from the Guyana Small Business Bureau and established business-lending practices. It is expected to be updated as the Development Bank publishes its final credit policies and application requirements.

The initiative is being led by Sadio Jonas, founder of AI for Guyana and an AI strategy and technology leader with more than 25 years of experience in technology and business transformation.

Jonas said the objective is not simply to help entrepreneurs obtain financing but to help them use that financing to establish sustainable enterprises.

The initiative plans to provide additional AI education and tools covering branding, marketing, sales, customer service, operations, financial management, communication and business expansion.

Its broader objective is summarised as: “GET READY → GET FUNDED → BUILD BETTER → GROW → EMPLOY OTHERS.”

The initiative emphasises that approval of any loan remains solely the decision of the Development Bank and that it cannot guarantee financing.

However, it argues that entrepreneurs should begin preparing before applications open rather than waiting until the financing becomes available.

Guyana Business Loan Ready is available through AI for Guyana’s business platform.

The initiative also stresses that it is independent and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the Guyana Development Bank or the Government of Guyana.
