Message from the President/CEO, Mr. Patrick Yarde, on the Occasion of International Youth Day August 12, 2026

Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI), the country’s premier onshore support facility servicing the oil and gas industry, is pleased to announce the launch of its 2026 Technical Scholarship Programme, aimed at expanding educational and career opportunities for young Guyanese between the ages of 16 and 25 pursuing technical and vocational studies.
Scholarships will be available to eligible students commencing studies in September at the Essequibo Technical Institute, Government Technical Institute, Linden Technical Institute, Mahaicony Technical Institute, New Amsterdam Technical Institute, and Upper Corentyne Technical Institute in areas such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metal Work and Mechanical Fitting, and Welding and Fabrication.
The scholarship will provide financial support for expenses including tuition and other academic costs, transportation, uniforms, study materials, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), among other necessities.
Beyond financial assistance, the programme is designed to provide successful applicants with internship opportunities at GYSBI during semester breaks, allowing them to gain practical, hands-on experience and benefit from knowledge transfer within a professional working environment. Upon completion of their studies, scholarship recipients may also be considered for employment opportunities within the company, subject to available vacancies and relevant requirements.
Iana Seales, GYSBI’s Human Resource Manager, said the programme represents an important investment in developing Guyana’s technical workforce and creating meaningful pathways for young people to participate in the country’s growing oil and gas sector.
“Guyana’s continued development will depend heavily on our ability to build a strong pool of skilled and technically competent professionals. Through this scholarship programme, GYSBI is investing not only in education, but in the long-term development of young Guyanese by giving them access to training, practical experience and opportunities to apply their skills within a rapidly evolving industry. We believe strongly in developing local talent and creating pathways that enable Guyanese to play an active role in the country’s growth,” she said.
First launched in 2023, the GYSBI Technical Scholarship Programme has supported 22 students from eight regions across Guyana, reinforcing the company’s commitment to education, skills development and local capacity building.
Applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 25, have been accepted into or are currently enrolled in any of the mentioned programmes at one of the participating technical institutes, and be willing to undertake an internship at GYSBI during semester breaks.
Each successful applicant will receive financial support of up to GYD $500,000 per academic year toward eligible educational expenses.
Interested persons can access the application form and the full list of required documents at https://jobs.talenthr.io/gysbi/gysbi-technical-scholarship-2026/37
The deadline for submitting applications is August 28th, 2026.
For additional information, interested applicants may contact GYSBI’s Public Relations Department or visit the company’s official social media pages at Guyana Shore Base Inc.
