The People’s National Congress Reform/A Partnership for National Unity (PNCR/APNU) coalition has issued a forceful call for both the President and Vice President of our nation to step down from office immediately, citing newly resurfaced allegations concerning a farm operation linked to the Head of State. The coalition articulated this position during a press conference held on July 17, 2026, where it laid out a detailed case built upon previous investigative work conducted more than a decade ago.
The main thrust of the coalition’s argument centres on what it describes as deeply troubling disclosures regarding agricultural land at Long Creek, which the PNCR/APNU coalition claims was operated by the current President, Mohamed Irfaan Ali. According to the coalition, these matters are not fresh discoveries but rather old concerns that were examined by the State Asset Recovery Unit during the period after 2015. The PNCR/APNU coalition maintains that investigators at that time uncovered significant irregularities that warranted serious consequences, yet were ultimately left unpursued.

The coalition has placed on record that during the earlier investigation, officials established several critical facts that raised red flags about the legitimacy of the land arrangement. The PNCR/APNU coalition states that the territory in question was formally leased to an individual named “Mohammed Ali,” but the identification documentation presented in support of that lease did not belong to the current President himself. Instead, the coalition alleges, the national identification card produced was that of the President’s father — a detail the PNCR/APNU coalition presents as central to its concerns about potential misrepresentation.
Furthermore, the PNCR/APNU coalition reports that when investigators visited the site, they encountered foreign nationals who spoke Spanish working at the location. The coalition notes that the agricultural enterprise involved poultry rearing as well as the importation of cattle from neighbouring Suriname. According to the information gathered by the PNCR/APNU coalition, these animals were understood to be connected to an agricultural exchange programme between the Governments of our country and Suriname, an arrangement that predated the APNU-AFC administration assuming office in 2015.
The PNCR/APNU coalition has also drawn attention to what it characterises as a broader pattern of questionable agricultural operations involving senior figures. The coalition points out that at the time of the original investigation, the then-former President and Leader of the Opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo, was also found to be maintaining a substantial farm along the highway at Moblissa. Additionally, the PNCR/APNU coalition claims that both Ali and Jagdeo were identified as joint operators of another agricultural venture situated at Kamuni Creek in the Demerara River, where investigators reportedly discovered cattle and other items that belonged to the Guyana Power and Light company.
The coalition has emphasised that the investigators who examined these matters completed comprehensive reports and were firmly of the view that the findings from the Long Creek farm inquiry should naturally have formed part of wider fraud charges being contemplated at that time. “Tragically, as events have since demonstrated, that was not the case. The investigation into the Long Creek farm was conspicuously excluded.“
The investigators, the PNCR/APNU coalition notes, “in their wisdom and guided by the evidence, had recommended” several specific courses of action. The coalition has highlighted that these recommendations included recognition that “there were breaches of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission’s Act and the terms of the lease”; “the immediate repossession of the lands in question“; and “the institution of charges for misfeasance in public office against those responsible, since in the case of Irfaan Ali, he failed to disclose his dealings as per the Integrity Commission Act, where no disclosures were made.“
The PNCR/APNU coalition acknowledges, as a matter of constitutional law, that the Office of the President carries with it certain immunities. However, the coalition argues forcefully that “immunity from prosecution must never be construed as immunity from accountability, transparency, or moral responsibility.” The PNCR/APNU coalition insists that “in any functioning democracy worthy of its name, when allegations of this gravity surface” — allegations involving the potential misuse of public office, questionable land leases, and the presence of foreign workers on a farm linked to the Head of State — “it is an accepted democratic norm that those named voluntarily step aside to allow for a full, fair, and impartial investigation to proceed.“
The coalition has made clear that “such a step is not an admission of guilt; rather, it is a demonstration of respect for the institutions of state and the confidence of the citizenry.” The PNCR/APNU coalition has expressed deep regret that the current administration continues to defy this fundamental democratic standard. “Rather than embrace transparency, they have chosen concealment. Rather than step aside to clear their names, they have clung to office while seeking to silence scrutiny.“
The PNCR/APNU coalition has therefore issued a direct appeal to all civic-minded citizens of our nation, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, or creed, to “stand up and join this gallant and critically important call.” The coalition is demanding “the immediate resignation of both the President and the Vice President to allow for an unimpeded investigation“; “an acceptable, transparent investigation to be conducted by impartial investigators with no political allegiance to the sitting administration“; and “the restoration of democratic accountability as a cornerstone of our national governance..“
