The Mattie Writing Project is inviting fiction, non-fiction and poetry submissions centred around the theme of “Community”  for its inaugural publication.

The Mattie Writing Project is a creation of a group of Guyanese who believe that the 60th Independence Anniversary presents an opportunity for Guyanese here and afar to reflect on who we are and who we are becoming amidst the rapid changes taking place around us.

Community can mean different things to different people, and so Guyanese are invited to submit their stories, essays and poetry of their communities and “how they helped to make you, break you, delight you, annoy you, and every emotion in-between”

The editors of the first publication include Nikita Blair, Andre Haynes and Dreylan Johnson. They are supported by Kevin Garbaran and Vidyaratha Kissoon. This project is voluntary.

The publication will be online. The deadline for submissions is 31 July, 2026.
