China commits additional 100 million yuan in emergency aid supplies to Venezuela

China on Monday announced an additional 100 million yuan ($14.72 million) in free material assistance to Venezuela for earthquake relief and post-disaster reconstruction, on top of its previous cash assistance to the South American country hit hard by two powerful earthquakes.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun made the announcement at a regular news briefing, and said the supplies will be delivered as soon as possible.

He noted that Chinese enterprises and overseas Chinese communities in Venezuela have voluntarily provided urgent engineering machinery and medical supplies, and formed rescue teams to actively participate in search and rescue efforts.

China stands ready to continue providing more support to Venezuela based on the development of the situation, Guo added.
