As we celebrate United Nations Public Service Day 2026 June 23, 2026 the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) congratulates all Public Sector Workers for your commitment, dedication, innovation and impact of delivering quality public services worldwide. In every society your foundational role in building stable societies and implementing transparent, ethical and community focused governance is recognized.

On this Public Service Day 2026, the Guyana Public Service Union salutes the backbone of our nation: our dedicated public servants. This year’s theme challenges us to ‘Transform the Public Sector to Optimize Productivity and Service Delivery by Advancing Innovation, Participation, and Inclusion.’

True transformation cannot happen without meaningful participation and fair treatment of the workforce. Innovation thrives only when workers are respected, adequately compensated, and protected under robust collective agreements. As we push for a highly productive public sector, the GPSU remains steadfast in ensuring that inclusion means leaving no worker behind. We demand safe environments, equitable wages, and fair pensionable appointments to match the tireless contributions of our members. Together, we will innovate, participate, and build a stronger Guyana.”

Productivity rises when workers are valued! Thank you to every Guyanese public servant keeping our nation strong. In line with the 2026 global theme, the GPSU emphasizes that a transformed, highly productive public sector is built on a foundation of fair labor standards. We call for meaningful social dialogue, inclusion in policy-making, and immediate attention to the welfare of our workers, who remain the bedrock of Guyana’s rapid development.

The need for a living wage that reflects Guyana’s economic reality would set the benchmark for poverty eradication. Optimization must begin with an investment in human capital. We urge all public servants to remain united, steadfast, and resolute as we demand the dignity, respect, and equitable compensation you rightfully deserve. The GPSU remains fiercely committed to defending the rights and freedoms of all Public Sector Workers as they continue to anchor our nation; the GPSU stands ready to participate in meaningful dialogue to transform our public sector, but will not compromise on the fundamental rights of workers.

Happy Public Service Day 2026.
