The Green Wave Band is calling on Guyanese across New York and the wider diaspora to come together in a vibrant display of patriotism and national pride as Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary celebrations continue abroad.

In a statement issued from Brooklyn, the organisation invited Guyanese, supporters, families, community groups and friends of Guyana to participate in Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary Parade scheduled for Sunday, June 7, 2026.

The event forms part of ongoing celebrations marking Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee, commemorating the country’s achievement of independence from Britain on May 26, 1966.

“The Green Wave Band proudly invites all Guyanese, supporters, families, organizations, and friends of Guyana to participate in Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary Parade on Sunday, June 7th, 2026,” the statement said.

Organisers are encouraging participants to wear green Independence T-shirts, wave the Golden Arrowhead and celebrate what they described as the “strength, unity, and resilience of the Guyanese people.”

Participants are expected to assemble at Church Avenue and Utica Avenue in Brooklyn from 11:30 a.m. before the parade gets underway. Supporters have also been asked to look for the Green Wave Truck in the assembly area.

The celebration reflects the enduring connection between Guyana and its diaspora, particularly in New York, home to one of the largest Guyanese communities outside of Guyana. Over the decades, Brooklyn has become a focal point for Guyanese cultural and independence celebrations, attracting thousands of participants annually.

The Green Wave Band also announced that official Green Wave and PNCR/APNU Independence T-shirts are currently on sale and encouraged supporters to obtain them ahead of the event.

“Bring your flags, your families, your energy, and your national pride as we celebrate 60 years of Guyana’s Independence together,” the statement urged.

The event is expected to feature music, cultural displays and patriotic expressions celebrating Guyana’s history, achievements and contributions to the Caribbean and the wider world.

The organisers concluded with Guyana’s national motto: “One People. One Nation. One Destiny.”
