Dear Editor,

I was born and bred in Lodge Housing Scheme, an area established before Independence, and I am aware that when I was a youngster an attempt was made to convert a residential building to a business and car wash, the Mackenzies, the Smiths, the Cains, Mrs Green and others objected and the council stopped the operation, those old folks have all since passed on.

Guyana Leads The Caribbean With Fake Ph.Ds

Today, there is a disgusting situation obliquely opposite Ashton Alleyne playground, I came in for an anniversary on Sunday evening May 24, there was a continuous noise from one or two massive vehicles now occupying a residential lot; who give permission? Nobody seems to know the owner of this heavy equipment, nor the lot of land, where earlier a wooden cottage stood. The noise is affecting people living in the surrounding areas, east of this disgusting situation, and there is the Davis Memorial Hospital, the Seventh Day Adventist church, and a senior citizens home.

Where are the building inspectors and those responsible for maintaining zoning in the city? I invite the media to send an investigative journalist to see this ridiculous situation and to find out who is responsible for it. There is another situation in this area, huge trucks are parked in Joseph Pollydore Street, opposite Five Dollar Street, making the place ugly and a traffic hazard. This is an appeal to the media, Ministry of Housing, City Council, Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) to help preserve the law and the sanctity of an area designated for housing before Independence.

Yours truly,
Nigel Bacchus
