WEATHER ADVISORY- FLOODING AND WEATHER RISK

The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) wishes to inform the public that the Hydrometeorological  Service advises that recent weather activity, together with current and forecast conditions for the coming week May 19th -23rd, 2026, is expected to significantly increase soil saturation levels across the country. As a result, any additional rainfall may trigger or worsen flooding in  low-lying and flood-prone communities.  

There is also an elevated risk of mudslides and land slippage in hilly and elevated areas due to  saturated ground conditions. Additionally, thunderstorms associated with these weather  systems may produce strong winds and lightning strikes, posing further hazards to residents  and infrastructure.

Precautions/Preparedness:  

  • Avoid flood-prone areas whenever Time 18:00hrs
  • Exercise extreme caution when driving or walking during rainfall, especially in areas affected by pooling water
  • Keep drains, trenches, and waterways clear to reduce the risk of flooding. 
  • Monitor future forecasts and

  • Isolated thundershowers
  • Brief gusty winds before and during heavier showers Localized ponding in low-lying areas
  • Saturated soils in some communities
  • Reduced visibility during intense showers
  • Slightly cooler temperatures during rainfall activity
