In a powerful demonstration of sustained support for STEM education in Guyana, MODEC has renewed its backing of STEMGuyana’s Learning Pods initiative for the second year in a row, pledging a sum of Three Million, Five Hundred and Sixty-Five Thousand Guyana Dollars (GYD $3,565,000) .The Learning Pods program, founded and managed by STEMGuyana provides after-school education in Math, Science, English, and Technology to children across learning centres nationwide.

In 2025, MODEC’s sponsorship of two (2) Learning Pods in Regions 2 and 8, saw a total of fifty-nine (59) students engaged, with more than half being girls. Overall, the participating students saw a measurable improvement in their academic performance in Math and English. Feedback obtained from parents of the 2025 beneficiaries expressed gratitude for their children’s growth in confidence and clearer understanding of core concepts in Math and Science.

MODEC’s recommitment ensures that students in the Mainstay Lake Learning Pod (Region 2) and the Paramakatoi Learning Pod (Region 8) will continue to access high-quality learning resources, mentorship, and hands-on experience in STEM fields.

Speaking on behalf of MODEC, Mr. Rafael Fumis, Country Manager said,  “Our continued investment in the Learning Pods initiative reflects MODEC’s commitment to creating lasting value in the communities where we operate. As a company built on long-term partnerships and responsible operations, we recognize that education is fundamental to sustainable development. By supporting students in hinterland communities, we are not only helping to bridge access gaps but investing in the future workforce, strengthening communities, and contributing to the resilience and growth of Guyana. This initiative embodies our belief that progress goes beyond our offshore operations; it is measured by the positive, enduring impact we create onshore as well.”

MODEC’s decision to recommit for 2026 underscores the growing and sustainable nature of this public-private partnership. The collaboration highlights the essential role the private sector plays in advancing quality education and cultivating local talent in STEM fields, as Guyana continues to chart its path toward national development.

Dr. Karen Abrams, Executive Director, STEMGuyana expressed her continued gratitude for the partnership. “MODEC’s recommitment to STEMGuyana’s Learning Pods is a testament to the strength and impact of this partnership. When a corporate partner chooses to return year after year, it speaks volumes, not only about their trust in our work, but about their genuine investment in the futures of Guyanese children. We are deeply grateful to MODEC for continuing to stand with us and for ensuring that young people in Mainstay Lake and Paramakatoi will continue to have access to the quality STEM education they deserve. This kind of sustained commitment is what transforms a programme into a movement, and we look forward to achieving even greater milestones together in 2026.”

Thanks to MODEC’s generous recommitment, sponsorship for key Learning Pods has been secured for 2026. STEMGuyana invites other corporate partners to join this movement by adopting one of the remaining learning pods, helping to provide access to quality education and empower even more children nationwide.
