Guyana and Türkiye are exploring avenues to strengthen parliamentary relations following a bilateral engagement between Speaker of the National Assembly, Manzoor Nadir, and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Numan Kurtulmuş.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Istanbul, where both sides discussed opportunities for structured collaboration between their respective parliaments.

According to a press release from Guyana’s Parliament, Speaker Nadir expressed appreciation for Türkiye’s hosting of the assembly and indicated Guyana’s interest in advancing formal parliamentary ties.

“He underscored a strong interest in establishing structured bilateral relations between the parliaments, emphasising that such engagement must move beyond symbolism and deliver tangible collaboration,” the statement read.

Discussions focused on potential areas of cooperation, including parliamentary exchanges, technical collaboration, and knowledge-sharing to support institutional development.

The engagement also reaffirmed a shared commitment to democratic governance, as well as regional and international peace and stability.

Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr Vindiya Persaud and Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy, were also part of Guyana’s delegation.
