The Guyana Olympic Association as a participating nation of the Commonwealth Games will host the King’s Baton Relay during the period April 14–19, 2026

As part of the coordination requirements and mandate and in keeping with the themes for the 2026 edition of the games for sustainability, connecting our community, unity, and celebration of cultural diversity as a commonwealth family, the GOA has planned the following activities for Guyana’s leg of the KBR:

Of particular significance is the acceptance by His Excellency, President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, of our invitation to participate in the King’s Baton Relay scheduled for Sunday, April 19, 2026 (6:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.), and he has further committed to walking the full distance with us as a sporting fraternity underscoring his strong support for sport and national unity.
This initiative offers a valuable opportunity for the sporting fraternity to come together in unified support of this important national activity, collaborating strategically to highlight our collective passion for sport, showcase Guyana’s sporting landscape, and reaffirm our shared commitment to the ideals of the Commonwealth movement.

It also allows us to interact and demonstrate our strong support for the leadership of His Excellency, President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, as we continue to position Guyana proudly within the Commonwealth family.

The King’s Baton Relay, which traverses all 74 Commonwealth nations and territories and symbolizes unity and shared purpose across the Commonwealth, is part of the traditional lead-up to the 2026 Commonwealth Games, scheduled for July 23 to August 2, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland.

The new edition of the KBR represents a reimagined Relay for a new era, embracing a new Games model and a new Monarch, with a strong emphasis on environmental and financial sustainability, promotion of cultural diversity, community connection, and a shared sustainable future for the people of the commonwealth.

Notably, for the first time, each participating nation will receive and uniquely decorate its own Baton to reflect its cultural identity. Compton Babb is currently designing Guyana’s Baton. This edition of the Glasgow 2026 Games will be a streamlined 11-day event, featuring approximately 3,000 athletes competing in 10 sports at four venues.
Guyana will be represented in five (5) sporting disciplines at the Games, namely in the disciplines of: Athletics, Boxing, Men’s 3×3 Basketball (historic first appearance) Swimming, and Cycling as a Para-sport participation comprising a twenty-seven (27) member delegation.

The plan for the King’s Baton Relay is to have a distinguished lineup of our national athletes and officials, past and present along with key members of our diplomatic and international representatives featured at various stages of the walk relay.

In this regard, the Guyana Olympic Association looks forward to the full commitment and active participation of your Association/Federation, its Executive, and members in strongly supporting the key activities outlined above at the scheduled dates and times. We kindly encourage your members to participate in their respective national team jerseys or appropriate sporting apparel and some form of gear to ensure clear identification of their disciplines. Associations are also encouraged to bring along their banners to further showcase their presence and support.
