In celebration of Good Deeds Day 2026, the Scout Association of Guyana, led by the Queen’s College and St. Augustine Scout Troops, successfully executed a youth-driven clothing drive that delivered hundreds of donated items to communities in Moruca and St. Cuthbert’s Mission (Pakuri).
The initiative, which ran from March 16th to 25th, 2026, saw scouts take full ownership of planning, organizing, and executing the project, from donation collection to logistics and final distribution. The drive called on the public to contribute clothing in good condition, resulting in an overwhelming response that directly benefited families in need.
“This initiative is a powerful demonstration of what happens when young people are trusted to lead,” Yonnick David, chief commissioner of the Scout Association of Guyana. “Our scouts didn’t just participate, they built something meaningful from the ground up and delivered real impact to communities in Guyana.”
Working collaboratively, scouts sorted and packed hundreds of clothing items before coordinating transportation to hinterland and riverine communities. The outreach extended beyond donation; it created meaningful connections between youth and the communities they served.
Reflecting on the experience, several scouts described it as life-changing, exciting and meaningful.
Community members in Moruca and Pakuri expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support, particularly in areas where access to basic necessities can be limited.
The initiative aligns with the global Good Deeds Day movement, which encourages individuals and organizations to engage in acts of kindness and service. Through this effort, the Scout Association of Guyana reaffirmed its role as a leader in youth development and community impact.
“This is what scouting stands for: leadership, compassion, and action,” Andrew Ramcharitar, Deputy Chief Commissioner. “Our young people are not waiting for change; they are creating it.”
