The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), the major partner in A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), on Saturday, March 28, hosted a medical outreach at its Region Three office, delivering a wide range of health and social services to residents.
In a statement, the party said the outreach provided services including blood pressure and blood glucose testing, eye examinations, dental consultations and examinations, massage therapy, VIA screening, a blood donation drive, HIV testing, mental health screening, counselling, and referrals to relevant agencies and organisations.
Participants were also directed to state agencies for further assistance. “Some persons were referred to the Probation Department to address issues of old age Pension and some to the Child Protection Agency to address issues related to Child Abuse,” the statement said. Additional referrals were made to the Dental Care Department and the Mental Health Unit of the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

According to the PNCR/APNU, the initiative attracted a large number of residents from both within and outside the region, reflecting its focus on assisting vulnerable communities. “This exercise attracted and served a large number of residents within and outside of the region in keeping with the PNCR/APNU objective of caring for, and serving the poor and vulnerable in Guyana,” the statement said.
The party noted that the outreach encouraged individuals to prioritise their health. “It was heartwarming to witness men, women and youths stopping and taking a moment to have their health assessed and addressed,” the statement added.
The PNCR/APNU expressed gratitude to the medical and support personnel who contributed to the initiative’s success. “The PNCR/APNU wishes to thank all the medical and other personnel who participated and helped to make the social service outreach a success,” the statement said.
It added that the programme will be reviewed and expanded to reach more communities nationwide. “We have learnt from this initial programme. We will analyze it thoroughly with the aim of improving the delivery of the services provided. The service will be taken to different communities in all Regions.”
