By Mark DaCosta- The suspect wanted for the brutal stabbing of a teenage mother has been apprehended following an extensive manhunt. Christopher Ali, aged 28, was captured on March 13 in the Upper Berbice River area, after he sustained serious injuries from an apparent assault by unknown individuals.
This shocking case revolves around the near-fatal attack on 15-year-old Tiana Chapman, the mother of Ali’s 11-month-old child, which occurred during a quarrel on February 24. The return of this turbulent chapter has reignited discussions about the rising violence in our communities and how the authorities have failed to prevent such tragedies.
Christopher Ali, also known as ‘Pinky’, had been evading law enforcement for weeks after he allegedly launched a vicious attack on Tiana Chapman, stabbing her multiple times in a fit of rage. Following the assault, which left Chapman severely wounded and fighting for her life, Ali was nowhere to be found, prompting a nationwide search. However, on Friday afternoon, the fugitive was discovered in dire condition near the De Veldt Health Centre. He had suffered chop wounds and was in need of immediate medical care. After receiving treatment at the facility, he was handed over to the police for further evaluation.

Witnesses suggest that Ali’s capture came after he had fallen victim to an assault by unidentified individuals, hinting at a possible act of vigilante justice from those who may have been affected by his violent actions. When he arrived at the New Amsterdam Stelling, accompanied by police personnel, a crowd had gathered, comprising relatives and friends of both the suspect and his victim.
Many expressed their relief at Ali’s capture, demonstrating a community deeply scarred by this disturbing incident. Police have since begun their investigation into the series of events leading to the stabbing and subsequent assault on Ali.
The shocking details surrounding the initial attack on Tiana Chapman unfurled when she was discovered in critical condition after being repeatedly stabbed. Reports indicate that she and several friends were enjoying an evening at a residence in Glasgow Resettlement when Ali ambushed her in a moment of unspeakable violence. Eyewitnesses described the horror as the teenager was attacked, leaving her suffering from numerous stab wounds. She was not given help swiftly, remaining unattended for about an hour after the assault before being rushed to the hospital.
Despite the severity of her injuries, Tiana showed remarkable resilience. She spent days in the Intensive Care Unit, clinging to life after the brutality inflicted upon her by a man known to her since childhood. Fortunately, after close medical attention, she was discharged and has begun the slow process of recovery.
Tiana’s mother, Adisea Andrews, who was absent during the incident due to her job, expressed her relief at her daughter’s survival but also spoke out against the community’s failure to protect her children. She stated that she had never condoned the relationship between her daughter and Ali, highlighting the challenges single mothers face in ensuring their children’s safety in environments where violence can run rampant.
As we reflect on this devastating incident, it raises serious questions about the role of our authorities in safeguarding citizens. The actions and response, or lack thereof, from law enforcement during the escalation of violence in our communities warrant scrutiny. Such tragedies should not be normalised, yet for many families, the cycle of violence continues unchecked, often leading to catastrophic outcomes.
The capture of Christopher Ali serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle within our society to combat violence against women and children. It is paramount that we continue to address these pressing issues, ensuring that swift justice is served not only for Tiana Chapman but for all victims of similar manipulations and brutalities.
