Barbados will host the President of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), Justice Winston Anderson, during an official visit scheduled for January 15 to 20, 2026. He will be accompanied by Registrar and Chief Marshal of the Court, Mrs Gabrielle Figaro-Jones.

During the visit, Justice Anderson is expected to engage with regional stakeholders and deliver a keynote address at events focused on governance, regional integration and the administration of justice. The programme also includes courtesy calls and discussions with members of the legal fraternity and public officials.

Barbados is a member of the Caribbean Court of Justice and was among the first countries to adopt the CCJ as its final court of appeal, replacing the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London in 2005. The country has since played a leading role in advancing the court’s mandate as the region’s apex judicial institution.

The CCJ- headquartered in Trinidad- serves both an original jurisdiction, interpreting and applying the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, and an appellate jurisdiction for member states that have acceded to it as their final court of appeal. Justice Anderson’s visit comes amid continued regional discussions on judicial independence and the strengthening of Caribbean legal institutions.
