The We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party is calling for the immediate resignation of Dr. Bob Ramnauth, Chief Executive Officer of the New Amsterdam Hospital, following allegations that he attempted to suppress information surrounding the deaths of 36-year-old Latoya Griffith and her newborn child on November 19, 2025.

According to Latoya’s husband, Helroy Williams, the tragedy was compounded by what he described as an alarming effort by the hospital’s leadership to manage and contain the fallout instead of accepting responsibility.

“The CEO’s priority was to manage the narrative to quietly kill the story,” Williams said, recalling a meeting with Ramnauth, the main doctor, and several staff members. He added that the primary doctor “kept changing his story about how many doses of Cytotec were given,” while Ramnauth appeared focused on deflecting scrutiny from the institution.

WIN reports that the CEO also attempted to influence public perception and silence criticism on social media. Williams recounted that Ramnauth warned the family that things were “not looking good online” and strongly urged them to remove critical posts about the deaths.
To Williams, the CEO’s actions amounted to “an organised effort to silence the family, minimise public scrutiny, and shift blame while keeping the hospital’s image intact.”

Concerns about the hospital’s administration extend far beyond this incident. Under Ramnauth’s leadership, the New Amsterdam Hospital has repeatedly been associated with allegations of medical malpractice, including several childbirth-related deaths. Staff members have long complained that the CEO is frequently absent, spends considerable time engaging in political work for the PPP, and is at times intoxicated while on duty.

One earlier case in 2024 involved 24-year-old Toshana Wilson, who died shortly after delivering a stillborn infant at the same facility.

Compounding the controversy, Ramnauth also serves as Chairman of the Close Area Committee at the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC)—a position that WIN argues raises serious concerns about political influence, divided responsibilities, and conflicts of interest.

WIN is demanding an independent investigation into the deaths of Latoya Griffith and her baby, as well as a probe into the alleged attempts to suppress the family and manipulate social media coverage. The party insists that all medical decisions related to the case must be publicly disclosed.

“The focus must be on accountability, justice for the family, and preventing similar tragedies in the future,” WIN said, urging Health Minister Frank Anthony to take swift and decisive action.
