Hailing from Tempie, West Coast, Berbice, Peaches Semple, a passionate and determined young woman is changing lives, one lesson at a time. Peaches Semple is a teacher attached to Novar Secondary School; has turned her personal story of struggle and perseverance into a lifelong mission to uplift and inspire her students.
On Friday, November 7, 2025 she graduated from the Cyril Potter College of Education, with an associate degree in education. Peaches is deeply committed to her professional growth and to shaping the minds of the next generation. Her academic journey, marked by faith, discipline, and determination, stands as a testament to the power of education and belief.
Peaches openly admits that her academic journey didn’t start on a high note. “Growing up, I wasn’t the brightest or most successful student. In fact, there were times when I used to come last in exams,” she recalls.
However, that changed when a new teacher, Miss Branch, entered her life. “She saw potential in me that I didn’t even see in myself and worked tirelessly to bring it out,” Peaches said.
Through consistent encouragement and dedication, Peaches went from struggling to read and spell to excelling in both areas. “That transformation opened my eyes to how powerful education truly is. It doesn’t just change your grades, it changes your confidence, your mindset, and your entire life,” she explained.

Inspired by that experience, Peaches made a promise to herself: to become the kind of teacher who helps students unlock their own potential.
When asked who influenced her most, Peaches doesn’t hesitate. “Without a doubt, my most influential teacher was Miss Branch, as she believed in me when no other teacher did,” she stated.
“Ms. Branch was firm, oh, she didn’t play! I even got lashes on my birthday once,” Peaches said with a laugh. “But she was also loving, patient, and determined to see me succeed.”
Within a year, Peaches went from coming last in class to placing third. “She showed me that true teaching means standing beside your students, not just in front of them,” she reflected. “That’s the kind of teacher I aim to be, one who pushes, encourages, and never gives up.”
Peaches’ love for teaching started early. “Even as a little girl, I used to line up my grandmother’s plants and pretend they were my students,” she recalled. “I’d ‘teach’ them everything I learned that day, and I was never late for class.”
But it was later, after realising how deeply one teacher’s belief had changed her life, that she truly recognized teaching as her calling. “It hit me that I wanted to give that same gift to others, to help students go from saying, ‘I can’t,’ to proudly saying, ‘I did.” For Peaches, the greatest joy in teaching comes from witnessing her students’ progress, no matter how small. “Seeing a student finally understand something they’ve been struggling with fills me with pride,” she said. “Each breakthrough moment reminds me of my younger self.”

Yet, teaching at a Grade C school comes with its share of challenges, from maintaining discipline to reaching students with varying learning needs. “Some days are tough,” she admitted, “but I remind myself that every child learns at their own pace, just like I did.”
Faith, patience, and perseverance keep her grounded. “I pray often and ask God for guidance. My goal is to make sure every student feels supported, loved, and believed in even on the hard days.”
Peaches’ advice to aspiring teachers is heartfelt and clear: “Teaching is not just a job, it’s a calling. If you have a love for people and a desire to make a difference, this path will reward you in ways no paycheck ever could.”
She encourages young people to be patient and compassionate. “Remember, every great teacher started as someone who simply cared enough to try,” she said. “One day, you might just be the ‘Miss Branch’ in someone else’s story, the teacher who changes a life forever.
From once struggling in class to now shaping the future of others, Peaches Semple stands as a shining example of how education, faith, and perseverance can transform lives.
Her story reminds us that behind every great teacher is not just a lesson plan, but a life lesson, lived and shared with love.
