The Annandale Secondary School community is mourning the tragic loss of 15-year-old student Navindra Mahase, who was struck and killed by a car on Thursday morning along the Success Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

According to reports, the fatal accident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m., during the busy morning rush hour while the “third lane” traffic system was in effect. Mahase, a resident of Le Ressouvenir, ECD, was reportedly attempting to cross at the pedestrian crossing when he was hit by motor car PAB 214, driven west along the northern carriageway by a 35-year-old female Police Corporal, who has since been placed under close arrest as investigators continue to determine the full circumstances of the crash.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) expressed “deep sorrow,” announcing that Navindra’s body will be laid to rest this Sunday at the Good Hope Crematorium, in accordance with Hindu rites.

To honour his memory and support his grieving family, the PTA has opened a Book of Condolences in the school auditorium. According to PTA President Andrew Weekes, “Parents, students, educators, community members, and residents of surrounding areas are warmly invited to visit, sign the book, and pay their respects.”

The Book of Condolences was opened at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, and throughout the day, students, parents, and teachers gathered with “heavy hearts” to reflect on Navindra’s life, share memories, and offer comfort to his family.

In addition, the PTA has placed two contribution boxes in the auditorium for those who wish to make a financial donation to assist the family. “Navindra’s mother is a single parent, and any contribution—no matter how small—will make a meaningful difference as they navigate this painful loss,” the statement said.

The PTA expressed gratitude to the community for its “continued support, love, and compassion” during this difficult time.

As one message in the auditorium read, “Gone too soon, but forever remembered.”
