In recognizing the theme for the 2025 International Day for the Eradication of Poverty designated by the United Nations, as being “ending social and institutional maltreatment by ensuring respect and effective support for families”, the People’s National Congress/Reform (PNCR) and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) reaffirm their commitment and deliberate efforts to actively respond to the urgent needs of the Guyanese people.

Poverty is one of the most grievous challenges faced in the world, as evidenced globally by the uneven distribution of wealth, and opportunities for human development. In Guyana, the diminishing of our collective talent, created by letdowns of our education system and dwindling dignity, coupled with undesirable increase to food prices and unsustainable employment, contribute to marginalization, inequality and injustice.

By subscribing to the premiere sustainable development goal of the United Nations to end poverty in all its forms everywhere therefore, the  PNCR and APNU remain tirelessly devoted to ensuring that every Guyanese has access to basic needs such as clean water, food, shelter and education. We must believe that poverty is neither a permanent social ailment nor an undefeatable challenge. Breaking the cycle requires unyielding determination that includes empowering our communities, by creating jobs, affordable housing and fighting inequality.

Eradicating poverty is not only the responsibility of the Government, but involves strong collaborative exertions of global leaders, the private sector and the ordinary human being. We promise to continue to lead with glowing light, by showing compassion, giving courage, igniting hope, restoring dignity and justice, rebuilding communities, and creating a chosen place, where no one is left behind, and where dreams are realized. The PNCR and APNU shall continue to pursue co-operative engagements for making policies to protect human rights across Guyana.

Together we stand with all Guyanese and lift our voices in one accord, to end the cycle of poverty and to make a difference.
