On the day of her funeral, the late Attorney-at-Law Rinee Kissoon was posthumously awarded the title of Senior Counsel (“Silk”) by President Irfaan Ali, in recognition of her distinguished service to law and justice.

President Ali said, “She will be remembered as a highly skilled Attorney‑at‑Law whose commitment to her clients and to service within the justice system was defined by technical excellence. Whether in the courtroom or in quiet consultation, she gave of herself fully by preparing meticulously, advocating fearlessly, and upholding the noblest traditions of the Bar.”

Kissoon passed away earlier last week at age 55, and her funeral was held on 10 October.

Attorney‑General Anil Nandlall, S.C., who had known Kissoon since their law school days, praised her as “brilliant, eloquent, and charming.” He noted that she entered the Bar in 1995, in a profession still largely dominated by men, and earned respect by excelling in complex legal matters and maintaining grace under pressure.

Even when unwell, Kissoon’s dedication did not wane. “Her clients never saw hesitation or half‑measure,” President Ali said. Her representation of those with modest means, for causes she believed just, was a hallmark of her career.

Kissoon also had international credentials, having distinguished herself at the New York Bar before returning to Guyana. She was married to Justice (ag) Navindra Singh, and her family includes other respected legal professionals, including her brother, Judge Sandil Kissoon.
