The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has commended Lieutenant Troy Hestick for his remarkable achievement in being officially sworn in as a Land Surveyor under the Land Surveyors Act, Chapter 97:01. The swearing-in ceremony took place on August 28, 2025, and was conducted by President Irfaan Ali.

Lieutenant Hestick was among five young professionals who successfully passed the rigorous assessments conducted by the Board of Examiners in October 2024. His accomplishment is particularly noteworthy as he is a serving officer of the GDF, balancing the demanding roles of military service and professional land surveying.

“The Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, Officers and Ranks of the Guyana Defence Force extend congratulations to Lieutenant Troy Hestick on his achievement,” the GDF stated in a release. “His accomplishment reflects the GDF’s commitment to nurturing members who are multifaceted, disciplined, and capable of contributing to the nation’s growth across diverse fields.”

The Force emphasised that military training instills valuable qualities such as resilience, discipline, time management, and precision — all of which prepared Lieutenant Hestick to excel in a technically demanding field like land surveying.

“Lieutenant Hestick’s success as a sworn Land Surveyor is a testament to how the rigors of military life equip personnel with the skills, mindset, and perseverance necessary to overcome demanding examinations, adapt to complex responsibilities, and achieve excellence in specialized fields,” the statement noted.

His dual role exemplifies the GDF’s mission of producing dynamic leaders who protect the nation’s sovereignty while contributing meaningfully to national development. The Force described Hestick’s achievement as an inspiration to all ranks and a demonstration of how service members can be soldiers, professionals, and nation-builders.

The GDF in congratulating Lieutenant Hestick affirmed that his success reinforces the vision of the military as more than a defense institution — but also a platform for personal growth and national progress.
