Dear Editor,

Now that the 2025 General and Regional Elections are over, we will soon have a new government, and focus will be again on the business of governing and development of our country and people. Over the next five years, ‘Building Our Dream Guyana Movement’ intends to be actively involved in governance and development of the people of Guyana and be able to access state funds and resources for our programmes and projects. We have refocused our movement on villages and families. As such, our programmes will focus on four areas: ‘Building Our Dream Villages’, ‘Building Our Dream Families’, ‘Community Land Management and Development’ and ‘Community Development and Business Planning’. Specific programmes are: ‘Developing an Environmental Industry’, ‘Developing a Family Industry’, ‘Supporting Rural Women in Agriculture’, ‘Supporting Rural Youths in Agriculture’, among others.

World Heritage Day

I will be focusing on my constituencies which include villages between Supply to Timehri on the East Bank of Demerara; some on the Soesdyke Linden Highway and some on the West Bank of the Demerara River, such as La Harmonie. Particular attention will be on developing individual, organizational and community capacity and capabilities in poverty reduction, job creation, business, planning, management, land management and development, succession planning, family and business, support for rural women and rural youth in farming and agriculture, and education and training generally.

The ‘Building Our Dream Guyana Village and Communities Programme’ will be linked to the government’s policies such as in agriculture/food security, job creation, environment and sanitation, land regularization and development, development of the village economy, and development of rural women and rural youth. We look forward to working with the Small Business Bureau; Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, particularly the Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs), Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDC) in our focus areas; the Environmental Protection Agency; Ministry of Agriculture for support with extension services, drainage, appropriate crop selection, etc.; Ministry of Human Services and Social Security; international organisations; as well as private sector organisations, particularly in our ‘Developing an Environmental Industry’ and ‘Development a Family Industry’ programmes.

‘Building Our Dream Guyana Movement’ has a ‘Women’s Group’ which will also provide support to communities and villages on matters relating to women. The ‘Land Support Group’ will provide support on land issues, particularly relating to matters with the government. I look forward to working with my constituencies and we look forward to working with residents in villages generally, in building partnerships to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development in communities.

‘Building Our Dream Villages and Communities’ programme provides an opportunity for us to reimagine, reconceptualize, reorganize and rebuild or villages, communities and families, together.

Finally, I am personally looking forward to working with the government to develop an ‘oil and gas waste management policy’ and masterplan for Guyana. Organisations such as the World Bank could provide required technical support to the government in this area.

Sincerely,

Citizen Audreyanna Thomas

Coordinator
