In a bold move to enhance public safety and improve community infrastructure, Massy Group IRP recently executed a large-scale pedestrian crossing repainting initiative across four communities in Guyana. The project forms part of the company’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy under the theme: “Making Community Spaces Safer – Pedestrian Repainting One Step at a Time.”

A total of five pedestrian crossings were repainted in high-traffic areas to improve visibility and reduce the risk of accidents for pedestrians and motorists alike. The locations selected for the initiative were Montrose, Plaisance/Sparendaam, West Ruimveldt, and Queenstown Essequibo.

More than 80 employees from the company’s Montrose, Essequibo, Bermudez and Massy Stores branches volunteered their time and effort to bring the project to life. Their active participation highlights Massy’s belief that CSR extends beyond financial contributions and is best exemplified through hands-on, team-driven engagement that directly benefits the public.

In addition to the strong employee turnout, this initiative was notably supported by interns from Massy Distribution’s ACCESS Internship Programme (Aspiring Careers through Coaching, Experience, Support, and Skills). These interns played a vital role in both the organisation and implementation of the activity. Their involvement highlights Massy’s commitment to developing young talent while providing meaningful, real-world opportunities to engage in impactful community projects.

To ensure the safety of both volunteers and road users during the repainting efforts, Massy Group IRP worked closely with the Guyana Police Force, whose officers provided critical traffic management and on-site support. This collaboration enabled safe and efficient execution at each crossing and demonstrated the power of public-private partnerships in promoting civic well-being.

In recognition of this important partnership, Massy Group IRP made targeted donations of essential safety gear to the police stations involved in supporting the initiative. On August 13, donations of traffic cones, reflective vests, and wands were made to the West Ruimveldt, Plaisance/Sparendaam, and Cove and John Police Stations. An earlier donation was also made to the Anna Regina Police Station on August 11, facilitated by Massy’s Essequibo branch. These contributions were aimed at strengthening the capacity of law enforcement officers to manage road safety operations effectively and safely.

“At Massy, we believe that safety is a shared responsibility. Through initiatives like these and by working hand-in-hand with our local authorities, we are proud to play a role in creating safer environments for everyone,” said David Dharamraj, Chief Financial Officer – Massy Distribution Guyana Inc.
