Dear Editor,
Why does the Guyana government only become aware of major drug trafficking operations within its borders through intelligence provided by United States Law Enforcement agencies? What roles do the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) and the Guyana Police Force play in combating drug trafficking?
The seemingly symbiotic relationship between drug trafficking organisations and the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) government has a history that dates back to the tenure of former President Bharrat Jagdeo, who currently serves as Vice President and General Secretary of the PPP. As a nation, can Guyana afford to become a transshipment point for South American drug traffickers?
In light of the US Secretary of State’s efforts to disrupt drug cartels, should citizens unite to vote the PPP, led by Bharrat Jagdeo, out of office on September 1, 2025, in order to restore Guyana’s international reputation?
Yours truly,
E. Gomes
