Dear Editor,
I write to share some personal reflections on my political journey and the direction in which Guyana is heading. Like many others, I once placed my faith in political leaders and movements that I believed represented a particular vision for our country. However, the events of the past five years have caused me to undertake serious soul-searching and to reconsider the principles and values that originally inspired my political involvement.
There was a time when I followed the failed PNCR Leader, along with many others who were central to the youth arm of the PNCR’s progressive movement. Unfortunately, the last five years required deep soul-searching and reconciliation with the vision and shared values of the party’s founder and leader, Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham, for Guyana.
We are witnessing what I regard as the wholesale piracy of Burnham’s works and ideas by the PPP kleptocracy, in what appears to be an attempt to rewrite our history. Say no to the revisionists and to what I regard as the President Irfaan Ali-led kleptocracy engaged in the noonday heist of our national wealth with their friends and families.
It is time for us to take Guyana back for the greater good of our nation. The PNCR and the PPP have, in my view, become one.
Guyana’s future ultimately rests not only with political leaders but with its citizens. We must be prepared to examine the record of those who seek our support, defend the integrity of our history, and insist that our country’s resources and institutions serve the national interest rather than a select few.
The political labels may change, leaders may come and go, and parties may reposition themselves, but the responsibility of citizens remains the same. We must remain vigilant, hold those in authority accountable and participate actively in determining the kind of Guyana we leave for future generations.
The time has come for each of us to decide what role we will play in shaping that future. Be the change you want to see in Guyana.
