Former Minister and Parliamentarian Annette Ferguson has sharply criticised Bharrat Jagdeo’s recent statements about housing developments in Linden under the Coalition Government, calling them misleading and a blatant attempt to rewrite history for political gain.
Jagdeo made these claims during an interview on the Afternoon Lockdown Show on HJ 94.1 FM on August 4, 2025, and reiterated them at a People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) rally in Bath, West Coast Berbice, on August 10, 2025.
Responding to Jagdeo today via letter, Ferguson stressed that under the A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) Coalition Government, hundreds of house lots were allocated in Linden despite inheriting a struggling economy and without any oil revenue. She highlighted that the Coalition government successfully developed infrastructure and forged partnerships to deliver affordable housing fairly and without discrimination — even in areas considered strongholds of the PPP/C opposition.

In contrast, Ferguson pointed out that today’s PPP/C administration, despite sitting on billions in oil revenues, has produced so-called “low-income” houses of shockingly poor quality, many of which remain unoccupied or were built below acceptable standards. To illustrate the stark difference, Ferguson attached photographs comparing homes built under the Coalition Government in 2017 in Amelia’s Ward, Linden, with those constructed by the PPP/C in 2021–2022 in Great Diamond, East Berbice Demerara, urging the public to judge for themselves.

“It is hypocritical and dishonest for Mr. Jagdeo to downplay the Coalition’s achievements while peddling falsehoods about our record,” Ferguson said. “The truth is stubborn: the Coalition delivered fairer, better-quality housing without oil money, while the PPP/C delivers substandard homes despite unprecedented oil wealth.”
She further called on the PPP/C to abandon political rhetoric and instead focus on providing Guyanese with dignified, well-planned communities and housing that truly reflects the nation’s growing oil economy.
“Guyanese deserve better than propaganda wrapped in cheap concrete,” Ferguson concluded.
