Greater Manchester Police arrested a 24-year-old man on August 4 linked to a reported rape on July 23 in Manchester. The suspect, who has not been named, was later released on bail pending further enquiries. Police are supporting the victim throughout the investigation.
The allegation is connected to the Pakistan Shaheens’ 15-day England tour from July 17 to August 6. The PCB confirmed Haider Ali’s involvement but did not provide further details. Most squad members have returned except captain Saud Shakeel and Haider Ali.
Team updates ahead of Top End T20 Series
Mohammad Faiq replaces Haider Ali for the upcoming Top End T20 Series in Australia (August 14–24). Left-arm pacer Salman Mirza was also dropped from the senior Pakistan squad for the West Indies T20I series, with Mohammad Wasim Jr. called up instead.
The Shaheens, led by Muhammad Irfan Khan, begin their campaign against Bangladesh ‘A’ on August 14 in Darwin, Australia.
Legal support for Haider Ali
The PCB issued a statement confirming awareness of the investigation and emphasised respect for UK legal procedures. The board has placed Haider Ali under provisional suspension pending the inquiry outcome and is providing him legal support to protect his rights.
“Once legal proceedings conclude and facts are established, PCB reserves the right to take disciplinary action under its Code of Conduct.”
Haider Ali’s past controversies
The 24-year-old has played two ODIs and 35 T20 internationals since debuting in 2020. He was previously suspended in 2021 for breaching Covid-19 protocols during the Pakistan Super League. He was considered a key player by new white-ball coach Mike Hesson ahead of the tri-series.
