An incendiary device was thrown through the window of my parent’s house

Dear Editor,

I refer to the letter written by Dr. Randy Persaud, titled “ Saul’s claims of oppression are ridiculous,” published in today’s Stabroek News, August 8, 2025.

In that letter, he attacked Ret’d Army Officer Lelon Obrey Saul. Mr. Saul is quite capable of responding to the half-truths contained in his letter. For now, Mr. Editor, I remind him of experiences as shared and written from first-hand knowledge.

Briefly, as a result of the involvement of a top, now deceased, PPP activist, the election petition I brought was successful. The judge ordered that by-elections be held in the Houston Constituency, where I was the PNC candidate. In his summary, the High Court Judge referred to this Senior PPP activist as a man of meagre, moral fibre. The PPP never facilitated the holding of the by-election, as ordered by the High Court, for the said Houston Constituency

I recall that an incendiary device was thrown through the window of my parent’s house at Lots 58-59 Howes Street, Charlestown, where I lived at that time. Fortunately, I was not asleep and always kept a 45-gallon barrel with water, 2 buckets of sand and fire extinguishers at the western and eastern extreme of the house. I lived through the horrors of the bombing of the Sun Chapman, where 47 lives were lost, all PNC supporters.

The Commission of Inquiry revealed that a gentleman, known as Paddy Man boarded the motor launch, Sun Chapman, at the Sussex Street Wharf and placed a bag of what he claimed to be paddy next to the engine room. He never travelled. The inquiry revealed that he visited a high PPP Official at Freedom House, the same day.

I also recall Arthur Abraham and his seven children who perished in a fire, as a result of an explosive device thrown into their home. Arthur Abraham was a Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office. According to the PPP, he was “promoted” to the lower rank of Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works after being accused of passing secrets to the United Force leader Peter D’Aguiar.

Dr. Randy Persaud must know that the records exist to dispute the contents of his letter. Let the truth prevail, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

Yours truly,
Hamilton Green
Elder
